Firstly, to all our 2020 event participants, thank you! After a year of uncertainty and cancelled events, we value your support more now than ever before.
🌿It has been nice to get excited about something positive for us and our great little town of Naracoorte! All those extra weekends spent at home over the past few months have not been wasted. Our local trail running group has been very busy turning some of their long-time ideas into reality, with you guys being the lucky first to enjoy them…
👣For those that ran the medium or long courses last year, this year you’re in for a real treat. We have 4 (that’s right 4!!) freshly-created sections of beautiful winding single track through the Caves National Park. The Naracoorte Caves really are a special place and we can’t wait to share these new trails with all our guests and locals come race day.
📲Registrations will close midnight Saturday 14th November, so encourage your friends and family to enter ASAP if they haven’t already.
Now some important information updates for race day:
🚨NEW START TIMES: please arrive at least half an hour beforehand for bib/ merchandise collection
23km – 8.00am
15km – 8.30am
5km – 9.00am
Fossil Dash – 10.00am
🏅Presentations will be at 11am on the grass.
(Don’t worry, cut off will still be after midday if you’re walking!)
🚨NEW START LINE
This year we have moved the start line to the main grassed area near Dippy (our life sized Diprotodon statue), between the Caves Cafe and the Fossil Hunters playground. We are hoping this will create a brilliant atmosphere and energy to bring home the runners. You should see the arch as you enter from the main car park.
On-the-day registration and bib collection will be at the registration tent on the grass. You will also find COFFEE, drinks, and food all there in one spot. We must be mindful that we are still following a Covid safe plan, so people will need to be seated while eating and drinking. There will be sanitiser available and Covid Marshals assigned to ensure social distancing.
Given the time of year, we will be asking people to hold up:
· a snake / compression bandage
· at least 500mL of fluids
for us to see before the start of the 15km and 23km runs only.
In case of emergency, runners are also required to carry a mobile phone. There is a number on the back of the bibs that will direct you to the first aid tent and we can source help from there. Otherwise 000!!!
The great thing about restrictions easing is the fact that we can create that festive atmosphere that we prided ourselves on last year. We will be catering for everyone in the hope that people will be sticking around for some lunch and a drink (yes, there will be beer and wine) at the finish line, before exploring the fantastic World Heritage Caves.
Enjoy the local hospitality with:
The Wrattonbully Wine Association, Melaleuca, Natural Born Grillers, Argentinian Delights, The Coffee Pitt, Naracoorte Lions Club, Kenny’s Seafood, Ange and Steve Lawrie, Naracoorte Scouts, and The Naracoorte Hotel all taking part in the day.
🦇The Caves Cafe will also be open for business.
Our merchandise will be available from the registration tent and Thir Australia will be there with their great headwear products as well.
Please bring your friends and family out for the day if you can! We don’t want to deter people from coming out, so we will have a contact tracing register set up on the day if you haven’t pre-registered your spectators.
The main thing is that everyone is safe and has a good time – whether you call that running or sitting down and enjoying the sunshine (fingers crossed!).
Happy tapering or last minute training…
